Cherry Merry Muffin Catalog Booklet 1988

This catalog was released in 1988 with the first line of Cherry Merry Muffin dolls.  These were obvious takes on Strawberry Shortcake, but they certainly have their own charm.

There is a great site, http://www.merrymuffinland.net/ that is super complete and has nice photos of all of the dolls and accessories, including commercials, promotions, custom dolls and more.

Let's All Go To The Drive-In!

Yes, I mean Drive In Movies!  When was the last time you took your whole family, even the little ones and the dog, loaded up the car and went to the movies under the stars?

If it's been a while, maybe you should check out http://www.drive-ins.com/ and find your nearest Drive In theater.  There may be one near you and you don't even know it!

I've got a great Drive In about 30 minutes from me that I visit often during the summer.  I love the Drive In because it's not just the movies, it's a social event.  We call up everyone and invite them along.  Before the movie we play catch, run around with the dog, chit chat, or play games.  Once the movies start we are still all together, everyone in their lawn chairs, sharing snacks, taking turns petting the dogs, joking around, getting tired kids tucked into the back seat, running to the snack bar for more popcorn and still being able to see and hear the movie the entire time.

Our Drive In , www.99w.com, plays old classics, along with the new.  Last night's double feature was Jaws and the Avengers!  Did you know that Jaws was rated PG?

Find your nearest Drive In and relive the old magic.

Check out the rules of your Drive In before going.  Can you bring a BBQ, some allow it.  Are you allowed to sit in Lawn Chair in front of the car?  Can you bring in the dog?

Oh Please Don't Go ... We Love You So!

The amazing author and illustrator, Maurice Sendak has died at the age of 83. He inspired so many to read and let themselves fall into a book, let the fantasy wash over them, and forget the world for a while. He didn't write realistic fiction. His stories were often pure, wonderful, wonderful, nonsense. He is most famous for "Where the Wild Things Are" but he has so many other fantastic head scratchers. Books that make you suspend disbelief and imagine.

Be off with you, run to the library and check out, "In The Night Kitchen", "Over the Water", "Little Bear", "Chicken Soup with Rice", "One Was Johnny", "Hector Protector", Alligators All Around", "Outside Over There", "Higglety Pigglety Pop", "Pierre" and MORE MORE MORE!

Get the video "Really Rosie and the Nutshell Kids" to see several of these stories animated, with words sung by Carole King.

"There are so many beautiful things in the world which I will have to leave when I die, but I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m ready.”

“I cry a lot because I miss people. They die and I can't stop them. They leave me and I love them more.”

Monchhichi Monchhichi, oh so soft and cuddly!

Who wouldn't feel happy when seeing a Moncchichi?  Oh yeah, boys.  We loved Monkies in the 80's, remember Project X?  I still say, in a sad voice, "Virgil!"  Every time a see a little chimp.

I don't care what you say! I love Ewoks!

Montgomery Ward's 1983 Christmas Guide @ Toy-Addict.com
With gifts like these, it makes you wonder why Ward's closed all of their stores.
I scanned all of the good pages and left out the orthopedic shoes and garden tools.

Did you know that Montgomery Ward still exists?  www.MontgomeryWard.com

Thingmaker! for making Things!

                                               Thingmaker 1967

Hey kids!  Haven't you always wanted your own shrunken head, third eye or
massive scars?!?!  We can help!  Ask for the Thingmaker, with Fright Factory accessories, from Santa Claus this year.

The Thingmaker is a little heat source with different plates that had impressions in them.  You could buy these glue like tubes of gel and squeeze them into the plates to make items that were slightly thicker than gummi bears.  Not edible though.

I found one at a garage sale in this cute little town, Brownsville, OR.  It also happens to be the town where they filmed Stand By Me

Bon Jovi advertises for ... Aspirin?

Jon Bon Jovi talking about his aches and pains?  Seriously, this makes me feel old!

This is a photo of me and my Aunt and Cousin at the Bon Jovi concert in 1988.  I was in Junior High and it was the talk of the school.  Everyone wanted to go, everyone was talking about who had tickets, who was rumored to have front row tickets, or who knew someone who knew someone who was going to get backstage and meet the band.  Most kids didn't get to go to the show.  It was on a school night, it cost like $25, which was a fortune for a concert ticket, and it was finals week.  Cool thing about my mom was that she would let me skip school and stay up late to go to something as important as a concert!  I even got a t-shirt, which cost as much as a concert ticket.  I wanted to figure out a way to wear it all the time, so I started using it as my PE shirt.  It made me cool for about 3 days.  That was pretty good for a kid who did not feel cool.  It might have had something to do with the mullet I was rockkin'.

Plastic Bell Charms

Remember these charms?  I had a ton of them.  It was so exciting to go to the grocery store and get one out of a quarter machine!  I remember finding a store that had these 5 for $1.00 and I thought it was the best deal ever, and probably bought $3 worth, which seemed like a big deal to me.  You could often hear little girls coming because all of the tiny bells on their plastic chain charm necklace were jingling.  Some of the charms made perfect sense, little fruits, hearts, roller skates, teddy bears and rainbows.  Some made no sense at all: Hammers, Regular looking TVs, Knives, Tires, and even 70s style transistor radios.

You can usually find large amounts of them on eBay for pretty cheap, they're still fun and easy to display.

Hey give me 4!

Pop Culture!!!

50,000,000 Elvis fans can't be wrong, can they?

What is pop culture?  Basically it's what the masses like.
Have you ever met those people who say, "I don't follow trends like sheep."  To quote myself, "BAA!"  Things become Pop Culture because they are awesome!  Okay, okay, everything that everyone likes isn't awesome.  But, if something is getting popular, it will at least pique my interest and I will check it out.  And more times than not, I will jump on the bandwagon.
My main interests all revolve around pop culture.
I am a collector.  Mainly I collect Strawberry Shortcake , but I also collect records, Pac-Man, 40's kitchen stuff, vintage school and teacher books, Atari 2600 Games, Horror Movies, Disney pins, and .......
I love to take road trips!  You can bet that I will be at every tourist trap along the way.  I will stop for the World's Smallest Park, pose for photos with giant roadside dinosaurs, and visit any strange museum I find on Roadside America.
I sell on Ebay under the name Toy-Addict.  You can guess what I specialize in.
I have lots of fun and adventures along the way.  I will share them here and you can see just how big of a nerd I really am!
Oh by the way, everybody is Blogging these days.  Why don't you join us?
