1975 Sears Ventriloquist Showcase Catalog Page
To be honest with you, I do not like Ventriloquist Dummies at all. I have no rational reason for not liking them, but I just don't. It might stem from an episode of the Twilight Zone I saw when I was a kid! I was at a comedy show once and I didn't realize that one of the comedians was a Ventriloquist. I started to get up to leave and my family and friends wouldn't let me go. I was so uncomfortable and squirmy the whole time because I just wanted to run out of there. To make it worse, the comedian was terrible and I just felt bad for him on so many levels. The audience wasn't laughing and sometimes they were booing. His jokes were so sexist and dated. I'm sure the men would have been rolling in the aisles when he first wrote these jokes in the 70s.
